In my case, the problem is that the door handle has come off and I am trying to put it back on. However, the little pin (spring) that is supposed to keep the handle in place, doesn't seem to be working properly. It is permanently depressed and doesn't pop out when the handle is inserted. Is there still a way to fix it or do I need to replace it. Thanks for your help.

My door knob actually has a allen screw that holds into place, that I didn't know was there until I saw your helpful video. Until I saw your clip, I didn't know what to do. Thank you for sparing me hours of fustration.

Yeah I've done this a million times but how about when the little set screws don't hold the square threaded rod in place??? My house is 100 years old and all Lowe's can tell me is "change the lock, we don't sell that kind anymore". Maybe Loc-tite super glue is the way to go??

Thanks Tim. I would have never been able to fix mine without watching this video. For other people out there that have no holes at all on the doorknob (like mine) I ended up just turning the cover plate (or I think Tim called it the escutcheon plate) and it ended up hitting a spot where the plate popped out about a quarter inch from the door which exposed a little lever that I moved up about an inch with a small screwdriver and this allowed the door handle and the cover plate to be removed

I must have cheap doorknobs or something! There are no screws in the plate, nor is there a slit to put a little screwdriver in. What there is, is a teeny little nipple-like thing that, when pressed in, allowed me to remove the knob. But I can't get the plate off because I can't hold the "nipple" in with one hand and still use a tool in the other hand to pry up the plate. HELP, please!!!
